The Indian Railways will soon connect the capital of Jammu and Kashmir, Srinagar, to the rest of India. They are introducing a third version of the Vande Bharat Sleeper train, which would run from Kashmir to Delhi, the nation's capital.
The Vande Bharat Sleeper Train is anticipated to begin service between Delhi and Srinagar in January 2025.
Delhi-Srinagar Vande Bharat Special Features
The Vande Bharat Sleeper trains are designed to cover long distances during overnight trips. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw unveiled the prototype in September 2024, which will be manufactured by BEML.
The Delhi-Srinagar Vande Bharat Sleeper Train is specially designed for the unique conditions of Jammu & Kashmir. It includes advanced heating systems to handle sub-zero temperatures, ensuring smooth operations in colder regions.
The train has integrated heating elements for the driver’s front window and specialized heating for plumbing and water tanks to prevent freezing. Additionally, it features enhanced safety systems tailored for its journey through the Kashmir Valley. These modifications ensure comfort and reliability for passengers traveling to and from the region.
Travel Time Reduced by 7 Hrs
With the operationalization of the Srinagar railway line, travel time to Kashmir will reduce significantly from 20 hours to just 13 hours. This new train service will offer a quicker and more affordable way to reach the valley.
Delhi-Srinagar Vande Bharat Sleeper Train Schedule
The Delhi-Srinagar Vande Bharat Sleeper Train will leave New Delhi at 7:00 PM and reach Srinagar at 8:00 AM the following day. It will have stops at several stations, including Ambala Cantt, Ludhiana, Kathua, Jammu Tawi, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra, Sangaldan, and Banihal.
The New Delhi-Srinagar Vande Bharat Sleeper Train will cover 800 km in less than 13 hours, using the USBHL project, which is currently under development.
Ticket Price for Delhi-Srinagar Vande Bharat Sleeper Train
The New Delhi-Srinagar Vande Bharat Sleeper Train will offer three accommodation options:
- AC 3 Tier (3A): Estimated ticket price is around ₹2,000.
- AC 2 Tier (2A): Estimated ticket price is around ₹2,500.
- AC First Class (1A): Estimated ticket price is around ₹3,000.
