Indian Railways is all set to increase the bar of its facility provided to the passengers, with the launch of its two new trains Vande Bharat Sleeper and the Vande Metro. The trains are all set to start running on tracks in the upcoming months. The Vande Metro is designed to offer quicker, more pleasant travel for short-distance rail travel, while on the other hand, the Vande Bharat sleeper train is designed to improve the travel experience of travelers for overnight trips.
As per media reports, trials for the Vande Metro will soon begin, while trials for the Vande Bharat sleeper are scheduled to start in August. According to Union Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, India's first Vande Bharat sleeper trains will be running on tracks in next few days.
So how will these new trains affect Indian Railways passengers' travel experiences? Let's examine the features that set Vande Metro and Vande Bharat sleeper apart:
Vande Bharat Sleeper Trains
The passenger experience has been entirely revolutionized by the introduction of India's first indigenously constructed, semi-high-speed Vande Bharat trains. With the success of this contemporary train, Indian Railways is now planning to introduce Vande Sleeper, one of its own high-speed trains.
Vande Bharat Sleeper Berth
With characteristics that surpass those of the Rajdhani Express train, the Vande Bharat sleeper is a semi-high-speed train that can reach a top speed of 160 kmph. The train will be tested at a speed of 180 kmph, 20 km more than that of its top speed. The Vande Bharat sleeper train prototype is expected to contain 16 berths in total, including 11 AC 3-tier coaches, 4 AC 2-tier coaches, and one AC 1st coach.
Features that Sets it Apart
A lot of amenities are included in these trains, designed with the comfort of passengers in mind, such as sensor-based lighting in public spaces, improved couplers for jerk-free travel, cozy sleeping arrangements, and more. The prototype manufactured by BEML will have a front fascia design, inspired by the "prowess of eagles." The passengers on the Vande Bharat will have a more comfortable journey because of the extra cushioning on each side of the berth and the modified staircase that makes it simple to reach the top and middle berths. There will be a sensor-based lighting system specifically designed for the public sections of the sleeper coach. The train will also feature automated exterior passenger doors and reserved accommodations for people with disabilities.
Vande Bharat Sleeper Journey
The Vande Bharat sleeper express train is being designed to exceed the comfort standards set by the Rajdhani Express. This new generation of trains will incorporate advanced engineering to reduce jerks, vibrations, and noise, even at speeds of 160 km/h. The Vande Bharat sleeper train will be self-propelled with distributed power, eliminating the need for a separate engine to pull the train. Officials claim that the Vande Bharat sleeper will also have more crash-worthy components for the protection of its passengers.
"The car body structure is crafted with high-grade Austenitic stainless steel, featuring crashworthy elements integrated into the crash buffers and couplers. Complying with stringent safety standards, all materials and aggregates in the trainset adhere to the Fire standard requirements as per EN45545 HL3 grade," said Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw himself.

Vande Metro
In order to provide a quicker and better travel experience, Ministry of Railways is introducing Vande Metro. Based on the Vande Bharat platform, the self-propelled Vande Metro train is intended to replace mainline EMU trains.
What Sets it Apart?
In place of conventional trains, the Vande Metro is a more effective and convenient mode of transportation as it doesn't need a locomotive to pull it. There will be LCD-displayed passenger information systems and lightweight aluminum luggage racks on Vande Metro. The train will include bigger panoramic sealed windows with roller shades, route indicator displays, mobile charging ports, and automatic entry and exit doors.
Vande Metro Capacity
Vande Metro is said to accommodate a total of 300 individuals per coach. Inside, each coach of the Vande Metro trains will have 100 seats, each with contemporary, lightweight cushions, and an extra 200 standing spaces.
Vande Metro Speed
Vande Metro can run at a top operational speed of 130 kmph. The Vande Metro trains will include fast acceleration and deceleration technology, enabling them to operate at a top speed of 130 kmph— faster than the present Mainline EMUs.
