Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) on 15 June 2014 launched first Roof Top Solar Power Plant at Dwarka Sec21 metro station. In its attempt to conserve environment, Delhi Metro has become the first mass transit system of India to begin installing solar power plants on the roofs of its stations.
The plant with a capacity of 500 kilowatts peak (kWp) is expected to start generation by the end of July 2014. The power produced from the plant will meet the power requirements of the DMRC station.
This is the largest roof top solar power plant with such capacity in Delhi National Capital Region NCR under the RESCO model.
A power purchase agreement (PPA) regarding the installation of the plant was signed in February 2013.
