The Election Commission of India (ECI) on 16 May 2014 announced the results of the 2014 assembly elections of Sikkim. In a house of 32 assembly seats, Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF) led by Chief Minister Pawan Kumar Chamling emerged as the largest party by winning 22 seats.
On the other hand, the newly formed party Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) that will form opposition party won 10 assembly seats. SKM was formed as a political party in the western city of Soreng in February 2013. The party is led by Prem Singh Tamang, who is popularly known as PS Golay, the former minister in the SDF government.

The SDF was formed in 1993 and has been ruling Sikkim since 1994. The party in 2004 secured 31 seats and in 2009 Assembly Election it got the absolute majority. 
About Sikkim
Sikkim is located in the landlocked North East state of India that is located in the Himalayan Mountain. It is the second-smallest state (area wise) of the country after Goa. As a state it is bordered by Nepal, China’s Tibet Autonomous Region, Bhutan and West Bengal. The world’s third-highest peak, Kangchenjunga is located on Sikkim border with Nepal and it is the only state with open land border between India and China. 
On 16 May 1975, Sikkim became the 22nd state of the Indian Union with the abolition of Chogyal dynasty.
