According to the Engineering Export Promotion Council (EEPC) data released in March 2011, India's engineering exports grew at a pace of 80% during April-February 2010-11 breaching the $50 billion-mark. EEPC estimated exports to finish the fiscal with $57 billion. The growth in export of engineering goods is attributed to strong demand from the U.S. and the developing markets of Latin American countries.
Exports for the 11-month period April-February of 2010-11 stood at $52.7 billion against $29.14 billion in the same period in 2009-10 according to the Engineering Export Promotion Council (EEPC) data. In February, engineering exports grew by 75 per cent to $7 billion from $4 billion in the same period in 2010.
Of the $32.5 billion engineering exports in 2009-10, the U.S. accounted for over 30 per cent of the shipments. The EEPC mentioned that the engineering exports are set to play a major role in the Centre's strategy to double exports to $450 billion by 2014.
