George Clooney stepped down from UN role
George Clooney stepped down from his role as UN’s Messenger of Peace amid the reports of his engagement Amal Alamuddin.
George Clooney on 29 April 2014 stepped down from his role as UN’s Messenger of Peace amid the reports of his engagement with the human rights lawyer, Amal Alamuddin (36-year-old). He has served UN as Messenger of Peace since January 2008.
The end of the service of the Academy award winning Hollywood actor, George Clooney (52-year-old) as a UN Messenger of Peace was informed by UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon's spokesperson Stephane Dujarric.
George Clooney’s role as the messenger of peace ended after six years and he was a vocal activist for the UN work in Democratic Republic of Congo and South Sudan. As per Dujarric, due to the competing lives on part of their advocacy and professional lives would have caused difficulty for him to carry out a formal United Nations role.
