GMR Infrastructure Ltd, on 25 November 2010 declared that its subsidiary GMR Male International Airport (GMIAL) won a project to modernise, expand and operate Republic of Maldives's capital Male's International Airport. The total cost of the modernisation and expansion project which is estimated at $511 million will be funded through a combination of debt and equity in the ratio of 70:30. The consortium led by GMR Infrastructure with Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad (MAHB) on 24 June 2010 had won two concessions for the male Airport for 25 years. GMIAL was formed after the concession was won. GMR Infrastructure and Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad (MAHB) hold 77% and 23% stake in GMAIL respectively.
The GMR Group has currently got three airports under operation besides Male, namely- Delhi, Hyderabad and Istanbul.
