Indian Government increased the minimum support price (MSP) for copra by Rs 75 per quintal.

The Indian Government on 15 December 2010 declared that it increased the minimum support price (MSP) for copra by Rs 75 per quintal for the 2011 season. The government’s measure is aimed at increasing coconut production in the country. The decision was made following g the recommendations of Commission for Agricultural Cost and Prices (CACP) during the meeting of Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA). The MSP for fair average quantity of milling copra was set at Rs 4525 per quintal while the price for Ball copra was fixed at Rs 4775 per quintal. The Government believes that the increase in the MSP of Copra will encourage investment in coconut cultivation which would in turn increase coconut productivity.

The National Agriculture Cooperative Marketing Federation of India (NAFED) will act as the nodal agency to undertake price support operation at minimum support prices in the coconut growing states.
