ICC World Cup 2019: India vs Bangladesh warm-up match underway

After a disappointing loss to New Zealand in its first warm-up match, India looks to bounce back with a win in its second warm-up match against Bangladesh, which is today, May 28, 2019 at the Sophia Gardens in Cardiff.

The match would be crucial for India, as the Virat Kohli-led side would be hoping to fix their combinations before the beginning of the ICC World Cup. The Indian side will need to pull themselves, especially the top-order batsmen and start afresh, putting the loss behind them.

For Bangladesh, this match would be their first warm-up match after their previous one against Pakistan was washed-out due to rain.

Toss Report: India lost the toss and have been put to bat first.

Speaking after losing the toss, Indian skipper Virat Kohli said that he would have also chosen to bowl first. “First game we batted first, similar conditions, we put ourselves to challenging situations. But we got a hang of what we needed to do well from the last game. We played a practice game after 2 days of arriving in England. We are not pushing guys to do too much in these warm-up games. The fact that we are playing on the 5th gives us more days to prepare than the other teams. We just want to focus on our energy levels. We have played a lot of cricket compared to all other teams,” said Kohli.

India’s second warm-up match: Key Highlights

The Indian squad for today’s match will include 14 players instead of 13 like last time.

The highlight of the Indian team is that all-rounder Vijay Shankar has recovered from his injury and will be playing against Bangladesh.

Kedar Jadhav, however, is still in the recovery phase from the shoulder injury and will not be able to compete.

The two key players to watch out for during the match will be Jasprit Bumrah from the Indian side and Shakib Al Hasan from Bangladesh.

Team India will be playing its first world cup match against South Africa on June 5, 2019.

The Indian side has won the Cricket World Cup twice, the first time in 1983 against West Indies and the second time in 2011 against Sri Lanka on home ground.

India was also the runner-up in the 2003 Cricket World Cup, which was won by Australia. However, the team had a disastrous World Cup campaign in 2007, when it crashed out of the group stage.

Though Bangladesh has appeared in each Cricket World Cup since 1999, their best performance has been reaching till the super eight stage in the 2007 Cricket World Cup, which saw India and Pakistan crash out in the first group stage and reaching the quarterfinals in the 2015 ICC Cricket World Cup.
