India and Philippines Signed a Bilateral Cultural Exchange Programme for the Year 2011-13

International/World Current Affairs2011.The Foreign minister of Philippines, Albert del Rosario visited India on 15 March 2011. During this visit, India and Philippines signed a bilateral Cultural Exchange Programme for the year 2011-13

The Foreign minister of Philippines, Albert del Rosario visited India on 15 March 2011 to participate in the inaugural meeting of the Joint Commission on Bilateral Cooperation. India and Philippines signed a bilateral Cultural Exchange Programme for the year 2011-13 in the course of this visit. India and Philippines also announced the establishment of a Joint Working Group on cooperation in Counter Terrorism. India and Philippines also issued a joint statement during this visit. The main features of the joint statement are as following:

  • India and Philippines reviewed the progress of the 3rd Security Dialogue held in Manila in October 2009 and agreed to rename it as Strategic dialogue to broaden its scope.
  • India and Philippines also agreed to convene the first meeting of the Joint Defence Cooperation Committee (JDCC). 
  • India Philippines also agreed to convene the next meetings of Joint Working Groups on trade and Investment, tourism, agriculture medicine and health.
  • India and Philippines reaffirmed their commitment to the reform of the United Nations particularly the Security Councils.
  • India and Philippines welcomed the announcement of initiation of flights of the Philippine Airlines between manila and Delhi.
  • Both nations stressed the importance of enhancing cooperation in sectors such as Tourism, Agriculture, Health, Energy Education and Culture.
  • Both sides agreed to have closer cooperation in the regional and multilateral fora.
  • Both sides reviewed the progress of the 3rd security dialogue held in Manila in October 2009 and agreed to rename it as Strategic Dialogue to broaden its scope.
  • Both nations condemned the terrorism and decided to convene the first meeting of the JUVG on Counter terrorism.
