India, China agreed to deepen defence ties, maintain peace at LAC

The decision came at the meeting of a visiting 26-member delegation led by General Fan Changlong, Vice-Chairman of China’s CMC and the Indian side headed by Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar.

India and ChinaIndia and China on 16 November 2015 decided to deepen bilateral defence ties and maintain peace and tranquility at the Line of Actual Control (LAC). The two nations also agreed to strengthen cooperation against terror, including at the international level.

The decision was made during meeting of Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar with General Fan Changlong, Vice-Chairman of China's Central Military Commission (CMC). Gen Changlong was heading a 26-member delegation during their state visit to India.

This is the highest-level Chinese defence delegation to visit India in recent years.

Highlights of the meet
• In the light of terror strike in Paris, the two nations agreed to strengthen cooperation to fight the menace of terrorism, including at the international level
• India agreed to share India’s expertise in fighting terrorism by way of joint exercises, among other initiatives
• The two sides agreed to implement the consensus reached between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Xi Jinping to ensure peace and tranquility in the India-China border areas.
• The two nations felt that the two armed forces should shoulder important responsibilities for maintenance of peace and tranquility and agreed to further enhance communications and exchanges between the two armed forces.

Besides, the two reviewed the ongoing exchanges and expressed satisfaction at the recently-held bilateral military exercise, 'Hand-in-Hand'.
