Indonesia’s experienced shuttler, Taufik Hidayat, won his first Men’s Singles title of 2011 at the 2011 $120,000 Syed Modi India Open Grand Prix Gold badminton championship when he defeated Sourabh Verma of India.
Taufik is currently World Number 12 in Men’s Singles world rankings. Hidayat who ended his title drought of 2011 with a 21-15, 21-18 triumph over Saurabh received $9,000 as the prize money.
In the first set of this final battle, Taufik played with precision and won it with a comfortable score. in the second game, Sourabh elevated his level of play and matched the speed of Taufik but lost the set with a decent margin.
Ranked 72 in the world and on his debut season on the senior international circuit, Sourabh had won the Bahrain International Challenge in 2011 and had also reached the quarterfinals of TATA Open India International Challenge, Thailand Grand Prix Gold and Indian Super series.
The women's singles final was won bythird seed Inthanon Ratchanok of Thailand. Naoki Kawamae & Shoji Sato (Jpn) emerged winners in Men's doubles while in women's doubles, Shinta Mulia Sari & Lei Yao of Singapore defeated Miyuki Maeda & Satako Suetsuna of Japan to emerge champions.
