International Youth Day 2021: Every year, International Youth Day was observed on August 12. Governments and citizens all over the world come together to celebrate the youth on International youth day and to recognize and bring attention to the problems faced by them.

The International Youth Day was commemorated by the United Nations on August 12 in 1999.

The decision of declaring the International Youth Day was taken based on the recommendation made by the World Conference of Minister Responsible for the youth in Lisbon to the United Nations General Assembly.

International Youth Day 2021 theme:

The theme of International Youth Day 2021 is “Transforming Food System: Youth Innovation for Human and Planetary Health”.

Every year, the theme of the International Day is decided by the United Nations that is relevant to all the global communities and citizens.

This year’s theme of the International Youth Day highlights the crucial need for inclusive support mechanisms that ensure that the youths all over the world continue to amplify their efforts collectively and individually to restore the Earth and protect life while also integrating the biodiversity in the transformation of food systems.

International Youth Day aim:

According to the United Nations, International Youth Day 2021 aims to provide a platform for the young people to continue the momentum for ECOSOC Youth Forum in the lead-up to the high-level food systems summit. It can be done through youth engagement, education, entrepreneurial solutions, and innovation.

International Youth Day 2021 Significance:

On the occasion of International Youth Day, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres stated that youth day is significant as it highlights the youngsters who were on the frontlines of the struggle to build a better future for all.

He further added that the highlight of International Youth Day 2021 will be on the solutions that have been developed by the young innovators to address the challenges in our food systems.

Guterres also urged everyone on International Youth Day to guarantee young people a seat at the table as well all build a world based on inclusive, fair, and sustainable development for all.
