IAS K Sanjay Murthy was named the next Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) by the Central government on November 18th, replacing Girish Chandra Murmu.
Before becoming the CAG of India, Murmu was the first Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir after it became a Union Territory..
New CAG of India
In order, the center stated, "By virtue of the power vested in her by clause (1) of article 148 of the Constitution of India, the President has been pleased to appoint Shri K. Sanjay Murthy to be the Comptroller and Auditor General of India with effect from the date he assumes charge of his office."
Who is K Sanjay Murthy?
K Sanjay Murthy, an IAS officer from the 1989 batch of the Andhra Pradesh cadre, will take over from Girish Chandra Murmu as the new CAG. Murmu, who became the CAG in August 2020, previously served as the first Lieutenant Governor of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
K Sanjay Murthy: His Career
Murthy is currently employed in the ministry of education as the secretary of the department of higher education.
In this role, Murthy was in charge of working with educational institutions to advance educational development nationwide, supervising higher education policy, and making sure government programs were carried out.

The CAG, an independent constitutional body, is in charge of auditing the Indian government's and its agencies' financial statements. The CAG also provides reports on how well the government complies with other laws including the Constitution.
