This Lok Sabha Election not only consisted of the parties contesting with each other. In an election like Lok Sabha, where the average of the winning candidates is 56 years, four candidates from different parties and regions managed to win this election at 25. At least four candidates from different political parties are set to take oath as Lok Sabha MP for its 18th session, thus becoming the youngest members to be elected.

This election saw some of the youngest candidates becoming Members of Parliament at the tender age of 25 years. Pushpendra Saroj and Priya Saroj from the Samajwadi Party (SP), Shambhavi Choudhary from Lok Janshakti Party (RV), and Sanjana Jatav from Indian National Congress (INC) are the four candidates who managed to clinch victory in the 18th Lok Sabha Election 2024 at an age of 25 years.

1. Shambhavi Choudhary: Samastipur

Shambhavi Choudhary, daughter of Ashok Choudhary, a cabinet minister in the Nitish Kumar government, is one of the youngest candidates to have won the 18th Lok Sabha Election 2024. She won this election from Samastipur constituency with a significant margin of 1 lakh 88 thousand of votes. She defeated INC candidate Sunny Hazari, son of JD(U) minister Maheshwar Hazari. Prime Minister Narendra Modi also commended Shambhavi for being the youngest candidate for NDA for this Lok Sabha election in an election rally at Darbhanga.

This fight could also be seen as a fight between two politically influential families, in which Shambhavi emerged as a winner. However, Maheshwar Hazari did not participate in the election campaigning of his son due to political differences.

2. Sanjana Jatav: Bharatpur

Congress candidate Sanjana Jatav at mere age of 25 years won Bharatpur seat of Rajasthan. She defeated BJP candidate Ramswaroop Koli with a comfortable margin of 51,983 votes.

Lok Sabha Elections 2024 was not her first election. Sanjana had previously contested in Rajasthan Assembly election 2023 as INC candidate. She lost the elections to BJP’s Ramesh Khedi by a narrow margin of 409 votes.

Sanjana Jatav completed her graduation in 2019 from Maharaja Surajmal Brij University. Sanjana does not come from a political family. Her father has been an upsarpanch and contractor by profession. She is married to a Rajasthan police constable Kaptan Singh. The couple have two children. Jatav declared her total assets to be worth ₹ 23 lakh and liabilities worth ₹ 7 lakh in her affidavit submitted to the Election Commission of India at the time of nomination.

3. Pushpendra Saroj: Kaushambi

SP candidate Pushpendra Saroj won the Kaushambi Lok Sabha seat, which was previously held by BJP. He managed this victory by defeating BJP candidate and the incumbent MP Vinod Kumar Sonkar by a grand margin of more than 1 lakh votes.

Pushpendra Saroj completed his graduation in 2019 from Queen Mary University of London. He was just 25 years 3 months and 3 days old on June 4, 2024, the day he got elected to represent Kaushambi in 18th Lok Sabha session.

Upon becoming the youngest Member of Parliament, Saroj expressed his gratitude and emphasized his dedication towards raising public-related issues and concerns in Parliament. He wanted the electorate to continue to back him in his endeavors.

Pushpendra Saroj comes from a political family. He is the son of five-time MLA and former Uttar Pradesh Minister Inderjit Saroj. Inderjit Saroj lost Kausambhi constituency seat to Vinod Kumar Sonkar in 2019 Lok Sabha Elections. This victory of Pushpendra can be seen as a revenge against sitting MP Sonkar for defeating his father.

4. Priya Saroj: Machhlishahr

Samajwadi Party candidate Priya Saroj, daughter of Toofani Saroj, three-time MP from Uttar Pradesh registered her first political victory against sitting MP and BJP candidate Bholanath. She won with a comfortable margin of 35,850 votes from Machhlishahr Lok Sabha seat of Uttar Pradesh.

While everyone is applauding the youth of these candidates, at the same time there is one candidate from Tamil Nadu who managed to register his record 7th win in the 18th Lok Sabha Elections. DMK candidate TR Balu won Sriperumpudur constituency of Tamil Nadu state consecutively for the third time at the age of 82 years.
