Home Minister Amit Shah announced on Monday that the Ministry of Home Affairs has chosen to establish five new districts in the Ladakh Union territory.
Shah stated in a post on X that the establishment of new districts will strengthen government throughout all nooks and crannies, bringing benefits intended for the people directly to their doorstep.
5 New Districts in Ladakh
Modi-led Central Government has decided to add 5 new districts to one of the youngest Union Territory of India.
The added districts are- Zanskar, Drass, Sham, Nubra, and Changthang.
With the addition of these districts Ladkakh now has a total of seven districts.

The official announcement regarding the addition of new districts to Ladakh was made on X (formerly Twitter) by the official account of the Ministry of Home Affairs.

Amit Shah wrote on X, "In pursuit of Narendra Modi's vision to build a developed and prosperous Ladakh, the MHA has decided to create five new districts in the union territory. The new districts, namely Zanskar, Drass, Sham, Nubra, and Changthang, will take the benefits meant for the people to their doorsteps by bolstering governance in every nook and cranny.” He further emphasized that the Modi government is committed to creating ample amount of opportunities for the citizens of Ladakh.

Ladakh currently has just two districts, Leh and Kargil, each governed by its own autonomous district council. With the creation of new districts, Ladakh will soon have a total of seven districts.
