Magnus Carlsen of Norway won Shamkir Chess Tournament

With this, Carlsen not only retained the title for the second year in succession but also earned 13 ELO points to top the world ranking with 2875 points.

World Champion Magnus Carlsen of Norway won the Shamkir chess tournament held in Shamkir city of Azerbaijan on 26 April 2015. He defeated Azerbaijani Rauf Mamedov in the last and final round to finish the tournament with 7 points.

With this, Carlsen not only retained the title for the second year in succession but also earned 13 ELO points to top the world ranking with 2875 points.

Besides, five-time world chess champion Vishwanathan Anand of India in the last and final round drew with Fabiano Caruana of Italy to finish the tournament on second position with 6 points.

With this, he not only earned 12 ELO points to reach 2803 points but also reached second position in the world rankings. This is the first time since 2012 that Anand crossed the 2800 mark.
