Malwa Sangeet Samman 2011

Noted music director Khayyam was on 4 January 2011 selected for 2011 Malwa Sangeet Samman. Khayyam is popular for hit musical scores in films like Footpath, Shola Aur Shabnam, Phir Subah Hogi, Kabhi Kabhi, Trishul, Noorie, Umrao Jaan, Thodi Si Bewafai, Dard, Razia Sultan, Khandaan, Shagun and Bazaar. Non-film bhajans and ghazals composed by Khayyam have also gained popularity with music lovers.

The award was instituted by the Malwa Rangmanch Samiti and carries a cash prize of Rs one lakh and a citation. Malwa Rangmanch Samiti is currently working in promoting culture, arts and literature and has been felicitating legendary film personalities and also upcoming talented artistes. In the past the Samiti has honoured personalities like Usha Mangeshkar, Manoj Kumar, Mahendra Kapoor, Ravindra Jain, Ibrahim Ahsq, Pyarelal (of Laxmikant-Pyarelal team), Anandji (of Kalyanji-Anandji team), Anup Jalota and Ravi.
