According to an official media source, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to announce the expansion of Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY) on October 29. This program will provide health coverage for all residents aged 70 and above, regardless of their financial situation.
PM Modi will also unveil the U-WIN portal, which was created to maintain an electronic registration of routine immunizations and is presently in pilot mode.
New Beneficiaries Under AB-PMJAY Scheme
"The Prime Minister is expected to launch an expanded version of the Ayushman Bharat health insurance scheme, focusing on citizens aged 70 and above. This update will help around six crore people across 4.5 crore households," according to a source.
Regardless of income level, whether poor, middle class, upper-middle class, or wealthy, anyone who is of the age 70 or older will qualify for an Ayushman card. Once the expanded scheme is active, they can receive up to Rs 5 lakh in free medical treatment at any hospital under the AB PMJAY network.
How to Apply for AB-PMJAY?
People aged 70 or older, based on their Aadhaar details, will qualify for this scheme, according to sources.
It’s an application-based program, so eligible individuals must register on the PMJAY website or through the Ayushman app, officials said.
"Those who already have an Ayushman card will need to reapply for a new card and complete their eKYC process again," a source added.
What is U-Win Platform?
Under the Universal Immunization Program, the U-Win platform was created to maintain a permanent digital record of vaccinations for both pregnant women and children from birth to age 17.
This platform is seen as a replication of the Co-WIN app, which proved to be successful in maintaining the digital records of the COVID-19 vaccine during the pandemic. The app was popularly known as the COVID-19 vaccine management system.
