NACO (National AIDS Control Organisation) of India and GFATM (Global Fund to fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria), on 8 September 2010 signed a three year grant agreement for 609.9 crore Rupees. The Agreement was signed between NACO director general K Chandramouli and executive director of GFATM, Michel Kazatchkine.
The aim and objective of the grant given by GFATM to NACO is to make the HIV treatment accessible to HIV infected people in India. To achieve this, NACO will set up 10,700 Integrated Counselling and Testing Centre (ICTCS) to test and counsel 1.82 crore clients on a yearly basis.
The agreement between NACO and GFATM covers programmes such as Integrated Counselling and Testing Services (ICTS), HIV-TB collaborative services and Prevention of Parent to Child Transmission (PPTCT) services.
NACO will mainly focus on pregnant women, female Sex workers, people addicted to drugs, men having sex with men, and people having sexually transmitted infections and tuberculosis.
