Nepal’s Vice-President Paramananda Jha retook his oath of office on 7 Feb 2010 ending the language issue that was evoked over his talking an oath of office in Hindi in July 2008. On 7 Feb he took an oath in both Nepali and Maithili. The language chosen by him for taking his oath of office was criticized back in 2008 as Hindi is considered to be a foreign language. The Supreme Court had asked him to retake the oath in the official language but he had refused. Later in Jan 2010, the Nepalese interim constitution was amended making it possible for Nepal’s President, Vice-President and Prime Minister to take the oath of office in their mother tongues.
