Rajasthan Governor Prabha Rau died in Delhi on 26 April 2010. She hailed from the Kolhapur taluka in Maharashtra. Rau belonged to the illustrious Wasu family of Maharashtra. She was elected MLA in Maharashtra for six times beginning from 1972. As a Minister she held the portfolios of Education, Tourism, Cooperatives. She had been the chairperson of Maharashtra State Commission for Women from 1993-1995. She was a Member of the 13th Lok Sabha. She became the Governor of Rajasthan on 25 Jan 2010. Some of the important positions held by her were- Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee; Member, Congress Working Committee; Member, Central Election Committee; general secretary, AICC; and vice-chairperson, AICC.
