Private Investments Moved Up in Power Sector

Data released by the Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion recently showed that power has seen the greatest draw of global investments between April and October 2009. During the period that witnessed depressed economic conditions, the power sector claimed inflows increase of 106% leaving behind IT and software segment (67%).


Data released by the Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion recently showed that power has seen the greatest draw of global investments between April and October 2009. During the period that witnessed depressed economic conditions, the power sector claimed inflows increase of 106% leaving behind IT and software segment (67%). Recently Singapore based Sembcorp Utilities acquired 49% stake in 1320 MW coal-fired plant of Thermal Powertech Corporation India Ltd which is a subsidiary of Gayatri projects. Private investments in the power sector overtook investments in other infrastructure segments such as roads or railways moving up from 8% in 2007-08 to 25% in 2010-11.
