The Rajya Sabha on 21 August 2010 passed the Nalanda University Bill, which aims to restore the 5th century educational institution which was a learning centre for the students from all over the world. The East Asia Summit, a bloc of which India is a member, has taken the international initiative to revive the ancient educational institution in collaboration with the Ministry of External affair of India. The University’s interim governing body which drafts the regulations, is headed by Nobel laureate Amartya Sen and also includes the Foreign Minister of Singapore.
