RN Ravi appointed as new chief of Joint Intelligence Committee

Prime Minister Narendra Modi led Appointments Committee of the Cabinet cleared name of RN Ravi for appointment as new chief of JIC.

Union Government on 25 August 2014 cleared the name of RN Ravi for appointment as Chief of the Joint Intelligence Committee (JIC). His name was cleared by Prime Minister Narendra Modi led Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC).

Ravi will hold the charge for next three years in the rank and pay of a Secretary to the Government.

He was appointed for the position after the post fell vacant following the retirement of Ajit Lal on 31 July 2014.

RN Ravi is a 1976-batch batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer from Kerala. In 2012, he retired as Special Director of Intelligence Bureau


Apart from this, the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet also cleared the name of senior IPS officer Ramesh Chand Tayal for being appointed as Central Reserve Police Force Special Director-General.

JIC is a body that has been tasked to assess intelligence gathered by various intelligence agencies like IB and RAW.  The JIC functions under the National Security Council Secretariat.
