SIT formed to probe killings of people in Kokrajhar and Baska districts of Assam

SIT formed in Assam to investigate killing of civilians in Kokrajhar and Baksa districts to look into the conspiracy and mastermind behind the killings.

Government of Assam on 2 May 2014 formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate the killing of civilians in Kokrajhar and Baksa districts. The SIT would look into the conspiracy and mastermind (if any) behind the killings.

Background
Kokrajhar, Baksa and Chirang districts of Assam’s Bodoland area faced indefinite curfew imposed on it after militants killed 20 persons and injured several others, since 1 May 2014. Following the killing, Chief Minister of the state, Tarun Gagoi announced that the government will provide 3 lakh rupees as ex-gratia for the next kin of each victim. Apart from this, the centre also pitched in with another 3 lakh rupees as ex-gratia amount.
