For years this messaging platform has been accused of promoting illegal activities like sharing pirated content, or using it as a medium for dissemination of exam papers. A new discussion has started in India of Central government banning Telegram. However, there is no official announcement made yet.

5 Reasons for Telegram Ban in India

Check the reasons on why India might ban Telegram in the near future:

1. Child Pornography and Illegal Content

Telegram has collected a negative reputation in the Indian market due to its association with the distribution of child pornography. Many reports have suggested that despite efforts, the platform has failed to effectively remove these harmful groups, allowing them to continue sharing objectionable content.

2. Exam Paper Leak

Telegram has also been linked to the leaking of several important competitive exam papers, including the NEET UG exam held on May 5. The leak affected various districts in Bihar, Jharkhand, Rajasthan, and Haryana, with investigations revealing that Telegram was used as a medium to distribute the leaked papers.

3. Pirated Content

Telegram app is very infamous for providing its users with the feature of sharing pirated content, including movies, music, software, e-books, and more.

4. Hate Speech

There have been several instances that have indicated that Telegram is being used to spread hate speech and extremist propaganda, largely due to its encrypted messaging services that make it difficult to monitor and control such activities.

5. Terrorist Activities

Many investigations have shown that terrorists use Telegram to plan and communicate for their activities, raising serious concerns about the app.
