1. (a) Tripura
Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb launched the state component of Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojna (PMKVY) in Agartala. It is aimed at giving training to more than 116000 youths by 2020.
2. (b) China
Chinese scientists have developed a novel method by mixing two chemicals that help generate stem cells which can self-renew or multiply while maintaining the potential to develop into other types of cells and be used to treat a wide range of ailments.
3. (c) Bengali Cinema
The West Bengal Government formed a committee for commemorating 100 years of Bengali cinema. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is the patron of the 18-member committee. The committee is comprised of senior film personalities from the Bengali film industry with Soumitra Chatterjee as the chief advisor and Goutam Ghose as the chairman.
4. (d) Deepak Lather
Teenager Deepak Lather from Haryana became the youngest Indian weightlifter to claim a Commonwealth Games medal, clinching a bronze in the men’s 69kg category.
5. (a) USD 420 million
Indian Government, Maharashtra Government and the World Bank signed a USD 420 million project to help small and marginal farmers in the Marathwada and Vidarbha region of the state. The project will help in increasing climate resilient practices in agriculture and ensuring that farming continues to remain a financially viable activity for them.
6. (c) Indian Air Force
The Indian Air Force (IAF) will carry out one of its biggest combat exercises named ‘Gaganshakti 2018’ from 8th April to check its operational preparedness with a focus on dealing with any possible security challenges from China and Pakistan. The two-week long exercise will involve almost the entire assets of the IAF including its fighter squadrons and the main objective of the day and night drill will be to check war waging capability of the force.
7. (c) Haryana
The state government of Haryana has launched water ATM policy to provide clean drinking water at public places to the people of the state. The municipalities have been given the responsibility of identifying public places such as bus-stands, railway stations, parks, bus stops, parking areas and markets to start the installation of water ATMs.
8. (b) Lionel Messi
The UN World Tourism Organization announced on April 9, 2018 that it has appointed Argentina’s football star Lionel Messi as its ambassador to promote responsible tourism. The move comes as the body steps up its campaign to minimise the harm that tourism can cause to the environment and historical sites.
9. (a) Heena Sidhu
Indian ace shooter Heena Sidhu clinched the gold medal in the women's 25m pistol event at the 21st Commonwealth Games (CWG) in Australia on April 10, 2018. Sidhu created a new CWG record of 38 points to bag the gold, while her opponent Elena Galiabovitch of Australia scored 35 to take silver and Malaysia's Alia Sazana Azahari got bronze with 26.
10. (a) Tibet
Around 1200 year-old Buddhist cliff carvings have been found in Tibet that may offer a glimpse into Buddhist art and local history. According to the regional cultural relics protection research institute, the discoveries dating back to the Tibetan Tubo Kingdom were found in Acur township of Qamdo city.
11. (d) Bulletproof Jackets
The Indian Army has signed a major contract for the procurement of 1.86 lakh bulletproof jackets after the successful conduct of field evaluation trials.
12. (b) New Delhi
A two-day scientific convention was organised in New Delhi by Ministry of AYUSH on the occasion of World Homoeopathy Day on 10-11th April 2018. Vice President M. Venkaiah Naidu inaugurated the event. The day is observed to commemorate the birth anniversary of the founder of Homoeopathy Dr. Christian Friedrich Samuel Hahnemann.
