1. (a) Chattisgarh
Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel has announced to waive off farm loans to the tune of Rs 6,100 crore of more than 16 lakh farmers. The state government has decided to waive off all short-term loans availed by farmers from cooperative and rural development banks.
2. (c) GSAT-7A
India will launch its latest communication satellite, GSAT-7A aboard Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle (GSLV-F11) on December 19, 2018 from Satish Dhawan Space Centre at Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh. The satellite, built by ISRO, will provide communication capability to users in Ku-band over the Indian region. It will have a mission life of eight years.
3. (a) Global Compact on Refugees
The UN member states on December 17, 2018 voted in favour of the Global Compact on Refugees, affirming international solidarity and cooperation for refugee protection and host community development. The agreement received 181 votes in favour in the 193-member assembly. The United States and Hungary were the only two nations that voted against it.
4. (d) Saturn
Saturn’s iconic rings are being rapidly pulled apart into a dusty rain of ice particles under the influence of the planet’s magnetic field, as per NASA scientists. At this rate, the Saturn’s rings are likely to disappear in the next 100 million years.

The Union Cabinet has approved the establishment of two new All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) at Madurai, Tamil Nadu at a cost of Rs 1,264 crore and Bibinagar, Telangana at a cost of Rs 1,028 crore. Each new AIIMS will add 100 undergraduate seats and 60 B.Sc. seats and each would have 15-20 super specialty departments and around 750 hospital beds.
8. (a) Ganga
The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs has approved the project for construction of a new 4-lane bridge across River Ganga in Patna, Bihar with a capital cost of Rs. 2926.42 crore. The construction period for the project is three and a half years and so, the bridge is likely to be completed by January, 2023.
9. (d) PMUY
The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs has cleared the proposal of Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas to release deposit free LPG connections to poor families, who have not been considered earlier for the release of LPG connections under Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY).

The Nepal government has banned all Indian notes above the denomination of Rs 100 in a move that would impact tourists visiting the Himalayan nation where Indian currency is widely used. The government has asked the people to refrain from keeping or carrying Indian bank notes higher than Rs 100 denomination as it has not legalised them.
