1. (a) SpaceX
US space flight company SpaceX on February 6, 2018  launched the world's most powerful operational rocket 'Falcon Heavy' into the space. Falcon Heavy carried a red Tesla Roadster car belonging to SpaceX and Tesla founder Elon Musk into space. The car was outfitted with a mannequin dressed in a spacesuit, a high-data storage unit containing Isaac Asimov's science fiction book series, the Foundation Trilogy, and a plaque bearing the names of 6000 SpaceX employees.

2. (b) Japan
Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) successfully launched the world’s smallest rocket with the ability to put a tiny satellite into orbit. The experimental SS-520 sounding rocket lifted off from the Uchinoura Space Center. It carried a microsatellite TRICOM-1R, a three-unit CubeSat weighing about 3 kilograms.

Google launched new online security campaign #SecurityCheckKiya in India to promote security awareness among general public. The purpose of the campaign is to protect young and first-time web users from account hijacking, safeguard Android devices from malicious apps and secure all their personal data if they lose their device.

Jerome Hayden Powell was sworn-in as the new Chairman of the Federal Reserve for a four-year term on February 5, 2018. The oath was administered by Vice Chairman Randal K. Quarles in the Board Room. He succeeded Janet Yellen, the first woman to lead the US central bank in its 100-year history.

5. (a) Hyderabad
NGO Dhruvansh, the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority and the Ranga Reddy district administration launched the floating treatment wetland (FTW) in Neknampur Lake. According to the India Book of Records, it is the largest floating treatment wetland (FTW) in the country.

6. (b) Maharashtra
The Transgender Welfare Board of Maharashtra will look after education, employment, housing, and health schemes for transgenders and protect their Constitutional and human rights. Maharashtra will be the first such state to have such a Board, which was first conceptualised in 2014 by the previous government.

7. (c) Shabnam Asthana
The Times Group recently celebrated the invaluable contribution of women by introducing The Times Power Woman 2017 (Pune) awards. These awards were initiated to celebrate the victories of women who have been a great source of inspiration. Shabnam Asthana was awarded the 'Times Power Women of the Year 2017'- Pune for Global PR.

8. (b) Ram Nath Kovind
President of India Ram Nath Kovind inaugurated the 88th Mahamastakabhisheka Utsav of Lord Gomateshwara in Hassan district of Karnataka. Mahamastakabhisheka of Gommateshwara, who is also known as Bahubali takes place once in 12 years. It is an important Jain pilgrimage center and lakhs of tourists visit Shravanbelagola to see 57 feet tall monolithic stone statue that is anointed from head to feet during the Utsav.

9. (a) Uttar Pradesh  
Uttar Pradesh in association with UNICEF launched massive door to door campaign DASTAK to eradicate deadly Acute Encephalitis Syndrome (AES) and Japanise Encephalitis (JE) disease in the state. The war cry of DASTAK is 'Darwaja Khatkhatao, AES aur JE ko bhagao'.

10. (d) Mumbai
Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International airport of Mumbai sets record with 980 flights in 24 hours or almost one flight every minute. With this, the Mumbai Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International airport bettered its own feat of 974 flights in 24 hours, recorded in December 2017. While Gatwick, the U.K.’s second-largest airport, remains the most efficient single-runway airport in the world.
