1. (a) InSight
The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) on May 5, 2018 launched the Interior Exploration using Seismic Investigations, Geodesy and Heat Transport (InSight) Spacecraft to study the Mars’ deep interior. InSight, a Mars lander, has been designed to listen for “Marsquakes” ahead of taking off the human missions to explore the Red Planet.

2. (b) Literature
The Swedish Academy on May 4, 2018 announced that the Nobel Prize in Literature will be not awarded this year following the sex-abuse allegations and other issues within its ranks that have stained the body’s reputation.

3. (c) Manipur
The Manipur Government launched ‘Go to Village’ mission on May 1, 2018 across the state from Konuma ground of Komlakhong gram panchayat in Imphal West district. The mission was launched simultaneously in 60 villages in all 60 constituencies.

The 12th informal meeting of SAARC Finance Ministers was held in Manila, Philippines on May 4, 2018 on the sidelines of the 51st Annual Meeting of Asian Development Bank (ADB). Finance Minister of Nepal Yuba Raj Khatiwada chaired the meeting.

The Supreme Court on May 7, 2018 struck down a legislation that allowed former Uttar Pradesh Chief Ministers to continue occupying government accommodation even after demitting office.  The ruling was made by a bench of judges headed by Justice Ranjan Gogoi. The bench termed the law as "arbitrary and discriminatory", saying it violated the concept of equality under the Constitution.

The International Children's Theatre Festival would be taking place in Kolkata, West Bengal in June 2018. The Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services (INCOIS), under the Ministry of Earth Sciences, has developed a new model that would predict how far the sea water would travel after violating natural boundaries. The warning service would be a Level-3 alert under India's Tsunami Early Warning System, which was put in place after the devastating 2004 tsunami.

According to the latest report by Harvard University, India tops the list of the fastest growing economies in the world for the coming decade and is projected to grow at 7.9 per cent annually, ahead of even China and the United States.

In a historic first, the Supreme Court of India has ruled that an adult couple has the right to live together without marriage. The apex court held that live-in relationships were now even recognized by the Legislature and they had found a place under the provisions of the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, 2005.
