The Indian Air Force (IAF) on October 8, 2018 celebrated 86th Air Force Day with an aim to pay rich tribute to the untiring efforts and supreme sacrifice made by veterans, who laid a strong foundation for the service.

The Election Commission of India (ECI) on October 6, 2018 announced the schedule for the elections to the Legislative Assemblies of Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Mizoram and Telangana. The terms of the Legislative Assemblies of Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Mizoram are due to expire, however, the Telangana Government vide his order dated September 6, 2018 dissolved the Telangana Legislative Assembly with immediate effect.

Pankaj Sharma was appointed as the Ambassador and India's Permanent Representative to the United Nations Conference on Disarmament in Geneva. Sharma is currently the Joint Secretary (Disarmament and International Security Division) in the Ministry of External Affairs.

India and Russia on October 5, 2018 signed a USD 5.43 billion deal for India to procure the S-400 Triumf missile system from Russia. The deal was signed following the 19th India-Russia Annual Bilateral Summit between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Russian President Vladimir Putin and other delegates in New Delhi.

Alphonso from Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg, Palghar, Thane and Raigad districts of Maharashtra, is now registered as Geographical Indication (GI). The king of mangoes, Alphonso, better known as ‘Hapus’ in Maharashtra, is in demand in domestic and international markets not only for its taste but also for pleasant fragrance and vibrant colour.

India and Asia's first National Dolphin Research Centre (NDRC) will be set up in Patna. NDRC is likely to be set up on the banks of the Ganga river in the Patna University premises. The Vikramshila Gangetic Dolphin Sanctuary will be India's only dolphin sanctuary, spread over 50 km along the Ganges.

A non-governmental organisation (NGO) ‘Habitat for Humanity India’ would be building and repairing over 6,000 homes of those affected by the unprecedented floods in Kerala. The initiative is being taken up by the NGO as part of the second edition of Jacqueline Builds - a unique campaign featuring Bollywood actress Jacqueline Fernandez.

The international police organisation Interpol announced on October 6, 2018 that it has received the resignation of its Chinese chief Meng Hongwei. Meng was missing since September 25 and Chinese Authority confirmed recently that he is being investigated for suspected breach of law.

Pankaj Sharma has been appointed as the ambassador and India's permanent representative to the United Nations Conference on Disarmament in Geneva. He will replace Amandeep Gill. Sharma is currently the joint secretary (Disarmament and International Security Division) in the Ministry of External Affairs.
11. (d) Abhilash Tomy
Indian Naval Officer Abhilash Tomy, who was representing India in Golden Globe Race 2018, one of the world’s toughest endurance races, was brought to Visakhapatnam safely onboard INS Satpura on October 6, 2018. On September 21, Commander Tomy’s sailing vessel ‘Thuriya’ was dismasted when the boat was caught in a violent storm in the South Indian Ocean. He suffered a severe back injury and dropped out of the race.
12. (b) Odisha
The Chief Minister of Odisha, Naveen Patnaik has launched 'Nirman Kusuma' programme to provide financial assistance to the children of the construction workers for their technical education in the state. Under the programme, an ITI student will be entitled to get financial assistance worth Rs 23,600 and a diploma student will get assistance worth Rs 26,300 per annum.
