Trump Unveils Stargate Alliance: $500 Billion for AI Development in the US

On Tuesday, US President Donald Trump announced a significant investment in developing artificial intelligence infrastructure. The project is to be spearheaded by cloud giant Oracle, Japanese behemoth Softbank, and ChatGPT developer OpenAI.

The Stargate alliance or joint venture "will invest $500 billion, at least, in AI infrastructure in the United States," according to Trump's White House speech.

A day after taking office as the 47th President of the United States, he declared, "This monumental undertaking is a resounding declaration of confidence in America's potential."

Oracle founder Larry Ellison, SoftBank CEO Masayoshi Son, and OpenAI CEO Sam Altman were in attendance for the announcement.

"The Stargate project is committed to investing up to $500 billion over the next four years, with an initial investment of $100 billion," Son said.

What is Stargate Project?

The Stargate Project is a new firm that plans to invest $500 billion over the next four years to construct new OpenAI artificial intelligence infrastructure in the United States, the company stated Tuesday.

The OpenAI website states that the initiative will start with an upfront investment of $100 billion. The venture's infrastructure "will secure American leadership in AI, create hundreds of thousands of American jobs, and generate massive economic benefits for the entire world," according to the AI giant.

Importance of the Stargate Project

"The Stargate project provides a strategic capability to protect the national security of America and its allies, and it also supports the re-industrialization of the United States," according to a statement released by OpenAI on their website.

SoftBank, OpenAI, Oracle, and MGX are the first investors in Stargate. SoftBank is handling the funding, while OpenAI is managing operations. Masayoshi Son has been named the chairman of the project.

Oracle, NVIDIA, and OpenAI will work very closely to develop and run the computer system as part of Stargate. This expands on an earlier agreement between OpenAI and NVIDIA from 2016 as well as a more recent partnership between OpenAI and Oracle.
