The Union government on 3 September 2011 released a list of assets owned by Union ministers. Urban development minister Kamal Nath and his family topped the charts with a net worth of over Rs 263 crore. Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's holdings were reported to be a little over Rs 5 crore. Defence minister, A K Antony was placed at the bottom of the with his paltry Rs 1.8 lakh in bank deposits.
Heavy industry minister Praful Patel saw modest rise of 25% from around Rs 30 crore in 2009 to Rs 40 crore. Agriculture minister Sharad Pawar’s asset value (including his wife's and Hindu Undivided Family) climbed around 43% to about Rs 12.5 crore from Rs 8.7 crore in 2009.
The declaration, required under the Code of Conduct for Ministers mentioned that Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee’s asset was worth around 3 crore, Home Minister P. Chidambaram around 25 crore, Antony around 35 lakh, while External Affairs Minister S.M. Krishna commanded a little over 3 crore.
As for the prime minister himself, in the three-page declaration, his personal wealth, which included properties and cash, had been estimated at 5.1 crore ($1.3 million).
