UP Assembly passed a Resolution to divide the State into Four Parts

India Current Affairs 2011. The Uttar Pradesh assembly on 21 November 2011passed a resolution seeking to divide the state into four parts namely; Purvanchal, Pashchim Pradesh, Avadh Pradesh, and Bundelkhand

The Uttar Pradesh assembly on 21 November 2011passed a resolution seeking to divide the state into four parts namely; Purvanchal, Pashchim Pradesh, Avadh Pradesh, and Bundelkhand and forwarded it to the Centre.
 The procedure laid down by Article 3 of the Constitution of India for formation of new states is given below:
1. Union Cabinet to clear a bill which is sent to the President
2. President refers bill to legislature of the concerned state for expressing its views in the form of a resolution within a specified time
3. Irrespective of the resolution, President may recommend the bill to Parliament
4. New state comes into existence only after bill is passed by both Houses of Parliament and President gives assent
