The Chief Economist of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Gita Gopinath will take up a new role as the First Deputy Managing Director of IMF. Gopinath will be the second-rank official at IMF. She will replace the First Deputy Managing Director Geoffrey Okamoto who plans on leaving the IMF early in 2022.

World Athletics has awarded sprinter Anju Bobby George as 'Woman of the Year' for her efforts in advancing the sport in India. Anju Bobby George is a former international long jump star, who is still actively involved in the sport.

Twitter Co-founder Jack Dorsey announced on November 29, 2021, that he will be stepping down as the Chief Executive of Silicon Valley. Dorsey paved the way for an IIT-Bombay Graduate and Indian-origin Parag Agrawal to be the new CEO of Twitter. Parag Agrawal has become the youngest CEO in the top 500 companies.

Omicron COVID variant was first detected in South Africa and now the nation is facing a travel ban from several countries including the US, Canada, UK and many other European nations. Experts fear that the travel curbs are being imposed too late as most likely the virus has already spread to other parts of the world.

Tel Aviv has become the world's most expensive city to live in, surpassing Paris and Singapore as per the Economist Intelligence Unit's Worldwide Cost of Living Index 2021.
7. (a) Russia
India and Russia are scheduled to sign a deal on supplying 7.5 lakh AK-203 assault rifles on December 6, 2021, during Russian President Vladimir Putin's visit to India. The deal would provide a major boost to India and Russia military ties. All the necessary approvals have already been accorded to the deal including a final go-ahead from the Cabinet Committee on Security.

World AIDS Day is observed every year on December 1st to raise awareness on HIV/AIDS. World AIDS Day aims to raise awareness about the disease and commemorate those who have passed away due to it and celebrate victories in the field such as increased access to treatment and prevention services.

Barbados has removed Queen Elizabeth of Britain as the Head of the State. The Caribbean country formed a Republic with its first-ever President Sandra Mason and severed its last-remaining colonial bonds nearly 400 later after the first British ships arrived at the Caribbean Island.

Czech Republic President Milos Zeman appointed Petr Fiala as the Prime Minister of the country on November 28, 2021. Fiala is the leader of the Together coalition that had won the general elections in the Czech Republic in October 2021. The ceremony of appointing Fiala as the new head of the Czech Republic government was broadcast by Czech Television.

Lionel Messi won the men’s Ballon d’Or award for a record seventh time on November 30, 2021. Spain's Alexia Putellas won the women’s Ballon d’Or award for the first time.

Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin became India's third-highest wicket-taker in Test cricket during the first test between India and New Zealand at Kanpur on November 29, 2021. He surpassed Harbhajan Singh's tally of 417 wickets.
