RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das launched a new UPI payments service for feature phones named UPI123Pay on March 8, 2022. The UPI payments gateway involves a three-step method to initiate and execute services for users.The service will benefit an estimated 40 crore feature phone users and enable them to undertake digital payments in a secure manner.

The President of India, Ram Nath Kovind, presented Nari Shakti Puraskar 2020 and 2021 at a function held at the Rashtrapati Bhavan on March 8, 2022, on the occasion of International Women’s Day. The President honoured 29 outstanding women achievers for their exceptional work towards women empowerment, especially the marginalized and vulnerable women. Overall, 28 awards were conferred, 14 awards each for the year 2020 and 2021.

India’s first 100 percent women-owned industrial park has opened in Hyderabad, Telangana. The FLO Industrial Park is being promoted by FICCI Ladies Organization (FLO) in partnership with the Telangana government. The industrial park began its operations with 25 women-owned and operated Green projects.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky became the first foreign leader in history to address Britain's Parliament in a virtual speech. He directly addressed UK PM Boris Johnson and the UK MPs in a packed House of Commons invoking the wartime defiance of former British prime minister Winston Churchill, saying "we will fight to the end."

The Bharatiya Janata Party has achieved a hat-trick in Goa by winning 20 seats in the 40-member Goa Assembly. The party will be forming government in the state with the support of 2 MGP (Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party) MLAs and three Independents.

7. (a) Uttarakhand

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami submitted his resignation along with that of his cabinet to the Uttarakhand Governor Gurmit Singh. The move comes after Dhami lost from Khatima constituency to INC's Bhuwan Chandra Kapri by a margin of 6579 votes despite BJP reporting a comfortable victory in the Uttarakhand Assembly Elections 2022 with 47 seats in the 70-member assembly.

AAP has won a three-fourth majority in Punjab Election Results 2022, a historic victory for the relatively new party that only had a presence in the national capital till now. AAP won 92 seats in the 117-member Punjab Assembly. Congress was reduced to 18, while the Shiromani Akali Dal had to settle for 3 seats. This paves for AAP to form the first non-Congress and non-Akali Dal government in Punjab.

Yoon Suk Yeol has been elected as South Korea's new President, after winning the South Korean Presidential Elections 2022. Yoon Suk Yeol, the conservative beat Democratic party's Lee Jae-myung in one of the most closely fought elections, with the final count separated by less than 1 percent vote. He will succeed incumbent South Korean President Moon Jae-in, who could not seek reelection, as the nation's constitution limits a president to a single five-year term. 

10. (a) US

US President Joe Biden on March 8, 2022 announced a complete ban on all Russian oil, natural gas and coal imports to the United States, in an effort to impose harsher sanctions amid Putin’s war in Ukraine. The US oil imports from Russia make up a small portion of America’s energy resource, standing at roughly 8 percent in 2021, out of which crude oil import amounted to only 3 percent. Despite this, it is a huge decision as it will have global ramifications.
