West Bengal defeated Punjab to win the 64th National football championship for the Santosh Trophy at the Salt Lake Stadium on 8 August 2010. Bengal defeated Punjab 2-1 and Denson Devadas scored both the goals for Bengal while Punjab's goal was scored by Balwant Singh.Santosh Trophy, organized by the Indian Football Federation is an annual Indian football tournament that started in 1941. It is contested by states and government institutions.

Santosh Trophy, organized by the Indian Football Federation is an annual Indian football tournament that started in 1941. It is contested by states and government institutions. The trophy as named after the late Maharaja Manmatha Nath Roy Chowdhary of Santosh, who had been the President of the Indian Football Association (IFA), the football organisation of Bengal and the donators of the trophy. IFA also gives the away the Kamla Gupta Trophy to the runners up team. The Sampangi Cup which was first presented by the Mysore Football Association (now KSFA) in 1952 in the memory of a renowned footballer from Mysore, Sampangi is given to the team which is placed third. Bengal won the trophy for the maximum number of times (30 times).
