West Indies captain Shai Hope has moved into second place on the team’s all-time list of ODI century-makers after scoring his 20th hundred in the format. Hope reached the milestone during the second ODI against India in Guwahati, going past West Indies great Brian Lara, who had 19 ODI centuries.

Hope’s latest century came as West Indies produced a record-breaking batting performance against India. He scored 104 runs, helping the visitors post 405 for seven, their highest ODI total against India. The innings also made the match historic, with John Campbell and Amir Jangoo joining Hope in scoring centuries.

Hope’s 20th ODI Century

Hope has established himself as one of West Indies’ most consistent ODI batters since making his international debut. According to West Indies Cricket’s official statistics, he has played 156 ODIs, scoring 6,324 runs at an average of 49.79, with 20 centuries and 32 fifties following the latest match.

His ability to produce long innings has also made him an important part of the West Indies batting order. As captain, Hope has increasingly been central to the team’s ODI plans, particularly as the side works towards strengthening its 50-over campaign.

West Indies Century Leaders

Hope’s 20th ODI hundred places him behind only Chris Gayle among West Indies players in terms of centuries in the format.

Hope had previously reached 17 ODI centuries, tying Desmond Haynes, before continuing to add to his tally. West Indies Cricket had identified him as a joint third-highest century-maker after that milestone.

Record-Breaking West Indies Innings

The Guwahati ODI was notable beyond Hope’s individual achievement. West Indies scored 405 runs for seven wickets, setting their highest ODI total against India. Campbell scored 101, Hope made 104 and Amir Jangoo contributed 114, giving the visitors three centuries in the same innings.

The performance came as West Indies looked to respond after losing the opening ODI in Thiruvananthapuram. India had won that match by eight wickets, with Virat Kohli scoring an unbeaten 139 and reaching 15,000 ODI runs.
