UNESCO Heritage Management and Conservation Challenges

While inclusion in the India Tentative List at UNESCO increases international recognition and funding possibilities for conservation efforts, experts have stated that managing the site physically is difficult.

The conservation organization in charge of these sites will often have to contend with issues like staffing issues, dangers of encroachment, and maintenance of buffer zones around them.

Similar obstacles are faced by environmental habitats in India, such as the recent relocation efforts of tigers in West Bengal that involve prey availability and lack of staff among others.

Managing tourism with conservation of the structure will become crucial as they move towards gaining World Heritage Status from UNESCO.
