Earlier, the rulers like Betaraja I, Prolaraja I, Betaraja II and Durgaraja were the feudatories of the Western Chalukyas of Kalyana. It was Prola II, who established Kakatiya Dynasty as a sovereign dynasty. Here, we are giving the list of Kakatiya Rulers and their contributions for general awareness.

The Kakatiya dynasty was the famous dynasty of Telugu region or Andhra region. Earlier, the rulers like Betaraja I, Prolaraja I, Betaraja II and Durgaraja were the feudatories of the Western Chalukyas of Kalyana. It was Prola II, who established Kakatiya Dynasty as a sovereign dynasty. As per the "Prataparudra Yashobhushanam" written by Vidyanadha, Kakatiyas got their name because they worshipped the goddess called "Kakati". Here, we are giving the list of Kakatiya Rulers and their contributions for general awareness.

1. He was the first independent ruler of Kakatiyas.

Rudradeva

1158-1195

1. His name is mention on the famous inscriptiuon in the Rudresvara temple at Anumakonda.

2. He was a great patron of art literature and authored the 'Nitisara' in sanskrit.

3. Constructed the majes­tic Rudresvara temple in Anamakonda.

Mahadeva

1195-1198

1. Succeeded his brother Rudradeva but ruled only for three years.

2. He died while besieging the Yadava capital Devagiri.

Ganapathideva

1198-1262

1. He was greatest among all Kakatiya rulers and ruled for a long period.

2. The famous poet Tikkana Somayaji who was the court poet.

3. Assummed the title of 'Rayagajekesari'.

4. He was a great patron of trade and commerce and issued 'Abhya Sasanam'at Motupalli port.

Rani Rudramadevi

1262-1296

1. She was the daughter of Ganapathideva.

2. She was the first woman ruler of Kakatiya Dynasty as well as Andhra region.

3. The Italian traveller Marcopolo visited Mottpalli port during her reign.

Prataprudra

1296-1323

1. He was the son of Rani Rudradevi's daughter.

2. According to the Prolaya Nayaka Prataprudra copper plate inscription, Prataprdura committed suicide on the banks of river Narmada because he could not tolerate the humiliation and defeat against Delhi Sultanate ruler Ghiyasuddin Tughlaq.

In the 13th century, Kakatiya Dynasty faces numerous attack of the Delhi Sultanate and finally came to an end in 1323 AD when Ghiyasuddin Tughlaq captured the capital city Warangal.
