LPG New Rules 2026: What are the New 30-Day and 90-Day Rules for Indane, BharatGas and HP Gas Users?
The government has introduced the new 30-day and 90-day rules for 2026 under the ‘One Household, One Gas Connection' to reduce the LPG imports and curb the Black marketing.
The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has introduced the No Dual Connection’ on new LPG gas cylinders, 30-day and 90-day rules to curb the illegal commercial hoarding, dual fuel connections, reduce the domestic oil imports and the transition to transparent consumption gas connection for everyday gas connection.
The aim is to introduce these rules to transition urban households to clear Piped Natural Gas (PNG). LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas) and LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas) gas cylinders for the rural areas.
What are the new 30-day and 90-day rules for Indane, Bharat Gas and HP Gas users?
Major policy changes will be seen in the LPG cylinders of Indane and BharatGas. The changes will be implemented in two phases: the 30-day rule and 90 day rules
The New 30-day LPG Rule
As per the Petroleum Gas (Regulation of Supply and Distribution) Amendment Order 2026, under the Essential Commodities Act, 1955, a 30-day legal mandate to any household that has recently installed or activated a new PNG connection and has both PNG and LPG active connections.
The rule is that once your PNG line becomes fully operational. It will give you 30 days to terminate and close your existing domestic LPG cylinder connection. You can not have both active connections simultaneously which is prohibited according to the new rules.
You can submit the surrender and closing request to your Indane, HP and Bharat Gas distributor. In any case you failed to do it, your LPG account will be automatically blocked to prevent any future cylinder refills in the same connection.
The New 90-day LPG Rule
The 90-day timeline applies to those who live in neighborhoods where PNG pipelines are fully laid out and active but who have chosen to stick with the LPG cylinders.
According to the Natural Gas and Petroleum Products Distribution Order, 2026, under the Essential Commodities Act, 1955. Households are given a 30-day to 90-day transition window to sign up for the new PNG pipeline, where the PNG network is available.
The local city gas distribution companies are actively notifying the eligible customers to switch the connection. If any household ignores and fails to apply for a PNG connection within the designated time of 90 days, their existing LPG supply can be suspended or ceased by the oil marketing companies.
What are the Exemptions under the New LPG Rules 2026?
The government has also provided some exemptions to address the genuine issues and consumers. Here are the exemptions brought by the government:
If your local area or housing society does not have an active PNG network, these rules do not apply to you. Your standard LPG cylinder supply will continue enetrines as normal.
If a pipeline exists on your street but your specific building layout cannot safely support retrofitting due to structural limitations. You can apply for a formal No Objection Certificate(NOC) from the gas company.
The new transfer voucher relief for tenants, students, employees, and other surrendering their gas connection is not permanent. When you give up your cylinder under the 30-day rules, your distributor issues a transfer voucher (TV) so you can easily restore your LPG connection without paying for a new connection fee. Calling it ‘not permanent’ without context is highly misleading.
