Recently, Rahul Shewale, Shiv Sena MP expressed that the state government has assented to changing the name of eight suburban railway stations in the city of Mumbai, along with changing the Mumbai Central station.

The railway stations that hold their colonial names in the city of Mumbai will get their names changed. One example of such a railway station is the Currey Road station, which will soon be named Lalbagh. Moreover, the Marine Lines will be renamed to Mumbadevi. Another such name change will take place for the Sandhurst Road station, which will soon be named Dongri. Not to miss, the Charni Road will be renamed as Girgaon, and the Dockyad will be renamed as Mazgaon. Additionally, the Cotton Green will be renamed as Kalachowki and the King's Circle will be renamed as Tirthankar Parswanath. Furthermore, the Mumbai Central railway station will be renamed as Nana Jagannath Shakarseth.

Rahul Shewale said that the decision has been taken as there was a demand by the people of Mumbai to change the names of such railway stations that still held their British-era names. Shewale expressed this very sentiment of the Mumbaikars to the state government. Rahul Shewale further thanks Chief Minister Eknath Shinde for giving an approving nod to the proposal. Now, the proposal will be sent to the Union government after the approval of the Cabinet.

It is not the first time that the names of Mumbai's local railway stations have been changed. Earlier, the Victoria Terminus railway station was renamed as Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus. Moreover, the Elphinstone Road has also been renamed as Prabhadevi in the past and the Oshiwara station has also been renamed as Ram Mandir.

The Mumbai Central railway station is a prominent one in the city of Mumbai as it is made to use by various important long-distance and local trains. The station is situated at the heart of the city. The name of the station may be renamed after Nana Jagannath Shankarseth.

Nana Jagannath Shankarseth is often called the architect of Mumbai. The philanthropist, educationist, and social reformer has made a wide array of important contributions to the people of Mumbai and has provided capital and ideas to various sectors.

Nana Jagannath Shankarseth was born in Murbad in Thane district to wealthy parents. From a very young age, Nana Jagannath Shankarseth took the responsibility of carrying forward the family business at a very young age, post the death of his father in the year 1822.

Nana Jagannath Shankarseth was successful in earning the respect of both Britishers and Indians as a great community leader and social reformer. Additionally, he was the very first Indian to be nominated to the Legislative Council of Bombay. One of his great contributions includes donating land for educational institutions in the city. He was of the firm belief that India could progress with the help of education. Not to miss, the leader also made significant contributions to the education of women in the country.
