The popular ghazal and playback singer Pankaj Udhas passed away at a Mumbai hospital after a prolonged illness. The news was confirmed in a social media post by his daughter, Nayaab Udhas, on Monday. She wrote on Instagram, “With a heavy heart, we are saddened to inform you of the sad demise of Padmashri Pankaj Udhas on 26th February 2024 due to a prolonged illness.”

Pankaj Udhas was born on May 17, 1951. He was an Indian ghazal and playback singer known for his works in Hindi cinema and Indian pop. His career began in 1980, with the release of the ghazal album Aahat. He went on to record several hits, including Mukarar in 1981, Tarrannum in 1982, Mehfil in 1983, Pankaj Udhas Live at Royal Albert Hall in 1984, Nayaab in 1985, and Aafreen in 1986.

According to reports, Pankaj Udhas died around 11 am at the Breach Candy Hospital. His last rites will be performed on Tuesday. The renowned singer is survived by his wife Farida Udhas, daughters Nayaab and Reva Udhas, and brothers Nirmal and Manhar Udhas.
