Wednesday, September 4th ushered in the seventh day of competitions at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games. A multitude of sports were featured across the city's numerous venues, with athletes vying for gold in ten distinct events. Para archers, para athletes, and para equestrians were among those with medals still up for grabs. Meanwhile, swimmers, table tennis players, para sport shooters, wheelchair fencers, and wheelchair tennis players also had titles left to decide.
The day marked both the beginning of para powerlifting at the expansive Arena Porte de La Chapelle and para cycling's road races unfolding at the circuit outside Clichy-sous-Bois. China continues to dominate the Paralympic medal standings, having secured one-hundred thirty-five total medals thus far including sixty-two gold medals. Great Britain currently occupies second place on the table while Team USA trails in third with thirty-three golds and twenty-five golds, respectively.
In Paris, India has achieved its best performance ever at a single Summer Paralympic Games, winning five gold medals, nine silvers, and ten bronzes. On Wednesday, archer Harvinder Singh etched his name in the history books by claiming the nation's inaugural gold in para archery, defeating Poland's Lukasz Ciszek by scores of 28-24, 28-27, and 29-25 in the men's individual recurve open final. This doubles as Singh's second consecutive Paralympic medal.
Later that day, Dharambir smashed the existing Asian record with a throw of 34.92 meters to capture gold in the men's club throw F51 final, matching India's gold count from Tokyo. In the very same event, compatriot Pranav Soorma brought home silver after launching the club to 34.59 meters.
