There are six generic types of Hinduism as distinguished by McDaniel. They are as following:
Folk Hinduism (based on local traditions)
Srauta Hinduism (practiced by traditionalist )
Vedantic Hinduism (based on the philosophical approach of Upanishads)
Yogic Hinduism (based on the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali)
Dharmic (based on Karma)
