    Now a day’s life without internet is like living without dreams and goals. Electronic devices and network technology plays an important role in our life.


    Wi-Fi technology is wireless local area network technology, which allows an electronic device to access internet. Everyone at their home, even in an offices use Wi-Fi technology and is very common. But do you know about Li-Fi technology, how Li-Fi works, etc. This article deals about the Li-Fi technology and how it is different from Wi-Fi technology.

    Li-Fi (Light Fidelity) is a light based communication technology that delivers a high-speed, bidirectional network, mobile communication in a similar manner as Wi-Fi. Being bi-directional technology, Li-Fi is 100 times faster in comparison to Wi-Fi and amazing it can reach speeds up to 224 gigabits per second. The term Li-Fi was coined by pureLiFi’s CSO, Professor Harald Haas. This technology uses light-emitting diodes (LEDs) for data transmission. Basically, it is designed to use LED bulbs which we use in our homes, offices etc.

    Li-Fi is nothing but a Visible Light Communication (VLC) system which transmits data. It has two components: (i) At least one device with a photodiode which will be able to receive light signals and (ii) a light source equipped with a signal processing unit.
    Li-Fi technology requires LED a semiconductor light source, so that it can amplify light intensity and switch rapidly. Also, LED cells can modulate thousands of signals without the human eye ever noticing. The changes in light intensity from the LED light source are interpreted and converted as electrical current by the receiving photodiode device. Once the electronic signal is demodulated, it is converted into a continuous stream of binary data comprising of audio, video, web, and application information to be consumed by any internet-enabled device.

    Li-Fi can also function as a bidirectional communication system by interchanging visible light and infrared light from a photo detector. The mobile device connected to that photo detector can send data back to the light source for uplink. Led’s of multicoloured i.e. red, green, blue of retina size could be engineered to send and receive a wider range of signals than single-coloured phosphor-coated white LED’s.

    Wi-Fi technology is an integral part of our online communication network or we can say that it is a technology which supports local area wireless computer networking and enables all electronic devices to connect to the internet. With the help of this technology you can connect various devices like video-game, digital cameras, computers, digital audio players etc. for the successful transmission of information.
