India's 75th Republic Day parade on January 26, 2024, wasn't just a celebration of independence; it was a resounding declaration of women's empowerment and their vital role in shaping the nation's future. This year's parade stood apart with its distinct women-centric theme, aptly titled "Viksit Bharat" (Developed India) and "Bharat - Loktantra ki Matruka" (India - Mother of Democracy).

The Press Information Bureau mentions: “75th Republic Day parade at Kartavya Path to be women-centric; ‘Viksit Bharat’ and ‘Bharat - Loktantra ki Matruka’ to be the main themes: Defence Secretary Shri Giridhar Aramane”

Why this Year’s Republic Day Parade is Women Centric?

Historically, the Republic Day parade has been dominated by male-led contingents. This year's decision to break the mould signifies a conscious effort to recognise and celebrate the immense contributions of women across diverse fields. From the military to science, the arts to entrepreneurship, women are driving India's progress in every sphere, and the parade aimed to provide them with a well-deserved platform.

The Press Information Bureau(PIB) mentions: “Shri Govind Mohan, in his opening comments, highlighted a move towards more inclusive representation. He stated, "Aligned with the government's philosophy, we aim to strengthen the integration of cultural elements in the customary observance of Republic Day and Republic Week.”

“Traditionally centred on showcasing the country's military capabilities, this focus remains uncompromised. Government policies now involve a heightened presentation of our nation's diverse culture. He reiterated that this time, the cultural display is anticipated to be on a grander scale, showcasing a wider array of artistic and cultural expressions,” it adds.
