It was on the very first day of August when Angela Carini steed back from the bout against Imane Khelif from Algeria. This was done just after 46 seconds.
This incident became a huge highlight. The reason that Angela Carini gave for withdrawing from the bout after 46 seconds was that she was never been punched this hard before.
This created issues for Khelif, who was permitted to be a part of the Paris Olympics even after failing a gender eligibility test. This test was done at the World Championships at the International Boxing Association held in New Delhi last year.
Now, when the player could not pass the gender eligibility test, why was the player permitted to player?
Let's answer the obvious questions that are arising.
First question: Why was Imane Khelif permitted to compete at the Olympics even after failing the gender eligibility test?
The International Boxing Association has always been clear on who cannot be a part of the womens cometitions.
In a statement released on Thursday, the IBA expressed that two boxers could not meet the eligibility creatieria to compete within the female category, as per the tests conducted at laboratories at the World Championships in 2023 and 2022. One of the boxers was Yu Ting and the other one was Khelif.
The IBA further expressed that the two boxers were tested at the World Championship in Istanbul. However, they still competed in Turkey as the results of the tests conducted werent out by then.
Here comes the another important fact to consider. The IBA got derecognized last year by the IOC. This was done following issues relating to the finances and management. Therefore, it is the paris Boxing Unit appointed by the IOC that is conducting the Olympic Games. This further implies that the rules for eligibility are thus not the ones existing in the IBA.
Mark Adams, IOC spokesperson said on the participation of the two boxers at the Olympics, “They are women in their passports and it’s stated that this is the case, that they are female.”

Second question How are the rules different in IOC and IBA?
In the year 2021, the international sports federation developed the set of rules for the IOC. The rules were set by considering the important principles of "inclusion", "evidence-based approach", "fairness", "non-discrimination", "prevention of harm", and "no presumption of advantage".
This advisory implied that every sport could hold its very own regulations.

Prior to this, the IOC had fixed a testosterone limit. The level of testosterone was specified to be under 10 nanomoles per litre (nmol/L) for women sportpersons who had changed their gender from male and female in order to be a part of the female category in the sport.
The testosterone levels, however, wre not a part of the regulations by IOC anymore.
Finally, withdrawal of Angela Carini and the reaction by the IOC and IBA
The IBA expressed that the two boxers who could not meet the gender eligibility criteria, Yu Ting and Khelif, were subject to a distinct and recognized test, but did not go through the yesterday examination. The IBA further expressed that the details of thr tests were to be kept confidential. “While IBA remains committed to ensuring competitive fairness in all of our events, we express concern over the inconsistent application of eligibility criteria by other sporting organizations, including those overseeing the Olympic Games,” expressed the IBA.
Since then, the IOC has showcased concern regarding the abuse received by the two boxers and the arbitrary decisions by the IBA. “These two athletes were the victims of a sudden and arbitrary decision by the IBA,” expressed the IBA.
