Bengaluru Schools, Colleges Closed: With COVID-19 cases increasing rapidly in the city, the Karnataka Government has decided to close down all educational institutions including schools and colleges with a few exceptions. The decision was taken at a high-level COVID-19 review meeting held on 4th January, in which the Karnataka CM Basavaraj Bommai’s Govt decided to impose curbs to contain the spread of pandemic. Going by the latest order, all schools in Bengaluru have been asked to close down for next two weeks, while allowing offline classes for Class 10 and Class 12 students. Similarly, among the higher education institutions, all colleges have been shut down except for Medical and Nursing Colleges.
Schools, Colleges Closed for Two Weeks
Informing media persons about the decision, Karnataka Revenue Minister R Ashoka said that all schools and colleges in the city will be closed for the next two weeks starting from 6th January 2022. He further added that keeping in mind the upcoming board exams, students of classes 10th and 12th have been permitted to continue with their classes. On similar lines, all colleges in the city have also been shut down owing to the recent surge in the Coronavirus cases and only Medical and Nursing colleges have been allowed to stay open.
Lockdown Restrictions, Weekend Curfew Imposed
As the government tries to bring the COVID-19 spread under control, the state government has announced several new measures and restrictions for next two weeks. As part of these, apart from school closures, a weekend curfew has also been imposed in Bengaluru starting from 10 PM on Friday until 5 AM on Monday. Similarly, the seating capacity in restaurants, pubs, bars, cinema halls, and other public places has been limited to 50% only now. For Weddings, a maximum of 200 people for open gatherings and 100 people for indoor gatherings are allowed. Furthermore, people travelling from neighbouring states with high COVID-19 cases such as Goa, Maharashtra, and Kerala, will have to submit a negative RT-PCR test on arrival.
